Growing Tips

Bouteloua curpendula--Sideoats Grama has Blue-green foliage with very attractive purplish, oat-like spikelets hanging from one side of the stem in the fall.  After the first frost in the  fall the leaf blades turn shades of orange, red and bronze.  Prefers average to dry, well-drained soils. Drought tolerant and winter hardy.  Plants are rhizomatous, therefore provide good groundcover.  Cut stems down to the ground in early spring before new growth occurs. Most effective when mass planted in meadows or naturalized gardens. Too much fertilizer will cause this grass to get too tall and fall over.
