Calamovilfa longifolia--Prairie Sandreed is a warm-season perennial grass, 2 - 5 feet in height, with long scaly rhizomes. Culms occur predominantly as solitary stems. Leaves are 1/4 in. in width, 6 -12 in. in length, stiff, glabrous to scabrous. Inflorescence is a contracted panicle, 6-12 in. in length. This grass does well in sandy soil and is very drought tolerant.
