Squirreltail perennial bunchgrass, without rhizomes, that grows to 6 to 18 inches tall. It starts growth in early spring and flowers in late spring. In favorable moisture condition it will send up more shoots and flower a second time in the same season.   Squirreltail is widely adapted to many soil conditions.  It prefers full sun. If massed it can have a shimmery in full bloom when the wind kicks up.
